今日はフランスの作曲家ジャン＝バティスト・ガナイ生誕150年の誕生日です。今回はガナイ作曲「オルガンまたはハルモニウムのためのカノン ホ長調」(ジョゼフ・ジュベールに献呈) を弾きました。

ディジョンに生まれたジャン＝バティスト・ガナイは、ディジョン音楽院 (Conservatoire de Dijon) で学んだのち、パリ音楽院でシャルル＝マリー・ヴィドール (Charles-Marie Widor, 1844 - 1937) とテオドール・デュボワ (Théodore Dubois, 1837 - 1924) に師事し、1899年に対位法で賞を取得しました。卒業後はパリ音楽院の対位法とフーガの教授、パリ市の管弦楽監督を務めました。1908年から1910年にかけて芸術アカデミー (Académie des Beaux-Arts) より賞を受け、1919年から1935年までレンヌ音楽院 (Conservatoire de Rennes) の院長に就任しました。

今日はイングランドの作曲家・オルガン奏者、カスバート・ハリス生誕150年の誕生日です。今回はハリス作曲「ピアノのための5つの印象」より第4曲「落日 変ホ長調」を弾きました。楽譜には各曲にルイス・モリス (Lewis Morris, 1833 - 1907) による詩が題辞として書かれていて、第4曲は詩「落日に To the Setting Sun」の第2聯から以下の句が引用されています。

Stay, O sweet day, nor fleet so fast away;
For now the rose and all fair flowers that blow
Give out sweet odours to the perfumed air.

ロンドンに生まれブライトンで育ったカスバート・ハリスは、1887年に入学したロンドン・オルガン学校 (London Organ School and College of Music. 現在のロンドン音楽演劇アカデミー London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) でトマス・ヘンリ・ヨーク・トロッター (Thomas Henry Yorke Trotter, 1854 - 1934) に師事しました。1889年に王立オルガニスト協会 (Royal College of Organists) の Associateship Diploma (ARCO) と Fellowship diploma (FRCO) を、1894年にダラム大学で音楽学士 (Bachelor of Music) を、1899年に音楽学博士 (Doctor of Music) を取得しました。1890年よりロンドンやウェリン (Welwyn) で教会のオルガン奏者と合唱指揮者を、1905年よりストリーサム合唱協会 (Streatham Choral Society) の指揮者を務めています。
